When I started reading this series all I could think of was that is was eerily similar to Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series. The main characters love of nail polish with cute names, a beast within that seems just like Jericho Barnes and Riordan with obsidian eyes and the elite guard seem like the nine. Synthia also shares qualities with Mac and Dani, she kills fae, she is an orphan, and is sassy. Lastly, the music scattered throughout is also a common theme with the Fever series which I think was just immensely better in so many ways.*****Spoiler Alert*****So let's move on to the issues I have with the major plot holes with the series up until this point and not necessarily in this specific book. Ristan has a vision of Cynthia saving the realm. The time frame on this is very murky. Ryder's father the horde king demanded the blood king's daughter as a gift but then Ryder said he did? If his father demanded the blood king's daughter what would be his purpose. The book keeps flip flopping that Ryder demanded Cynthia as a gift because of a vision and that his father did. The Ryder describes that he watched Synthia from when she was with Adrian and killed Adrian so he could have her because of Ristan's vision but then when Synthia dies she sees Ryder's horror of "being attracted to a witch" when he first kisses her on her first assignment? Whaaattttt? Synthia is the light heir then she is the blood heir? Whiplash much? I just feel like the plot is all over the place and nothing ever gets resolved and just drags on. I completely skipped the sex scenes because they were way too long and just plain annoying. Ryder is thousands of years old but a 21 year old grandstanding spoiled brat is his eternal love? I'm not buying it. She was great in the first book and then just went progressively down hill. Too much grandstanding and speech making that everyone just went with because Synthia decreed it? The goddess twist was just terrible. The author should have just have had her die and continue the story with Ryder and her kids. Her husband is the horde king and can kill people by just looking at them but can't kill her brother numerous times? She dies and gives birth and couldn't seem less interested in the care of her children who are so important and just leaves them to her handmaidens or Ristan most of the time? They can get supplies for the babies from the human world but couldn't bring back a stroller or snowsuits to take sick babies to the tree? Lastly, the whole end of the book with the Guild and building a new Guild was extraneous and didn't make much sense about why a new guild was needed and of course run by who else? Of course Synthai because well you know she is sooooo great. Barf. The heroine just got plain annoying whining about how she wanted Ryder to marry her. If you want a edge of your seat series read the Fever series. This one fell flat and I won't be reading the next one. Someone spritz me like Rue McClanahan in Golden Girls! This one is hot! Look, we all know Ryder is a jerk. By book 4, you’ve learned him and his...quarks.But if you’re still reading, you’ve fallen in love with that big jerk face! Spoiler alert: you actually get to see a soft side of Ryder!!!!For those of you who are still personally attacking the author by book 4, stop reading the Far Chronicles. They aren’t for everyone. There are warnings in the beginning of the books. Guys, these are gritty, dirty, in-your-face, and I love it! But if you don’t, don’t read. That simple. Kinda tired of seeing Ms. Hutchins attacked for giving us a safe place to enjoy our fantasies.
