The series started off pretty well. The first book and the couple of short stories after were really cute and endearing, but we lost the plot somewhere in book 2. The author was spending so much time making the characters have gratuitous sex that it was frankly boring. I found myself skipping the sex to see if we ever got around to more plot. Sadly what plot there was, was perfunctory and very thin. I'd hoped by book 3 we'd start to see more plot...and was disappointed. I mean, the "chosen one" has had 2 attempts on his life now, and his mates give him a trip to New York? Seriously? I was pretty much done at that point. I discovered this author after her latest book was featured as a pick by one of my other authors. I picked that one up and, even though I didn’t know half of what was going on in this world as I hadn’t read any of the preceding books, I absolutely loved it! This first boxset is the best place to start with this author. It is very important to read all of these books in order. This set introduces you to the world of this series. The world building is amazing! I was hooked right away.The prequel with Sam, Vaughn, and their six kids was lovely. Ben was my favorite of the kids; I hope that he gets his own story. There are two short novellas next that are cute stories of their lives with the kids.The official first book, The Chosen One, worked for me even though I was a bit wary of an MC with eight mates. It was especially chock full of sexy times with the men. My only question was what happened to Draco and his germophobia? At the beginning, he was hyper sensitive to germs, but later he wanted to have a hot tub with all of his men in it. Hot tubs are just Petrie dishes of bacterial goo. (I happen to be a bit of a germophobe myself).The next book follows the chosen one Sawyer and his first four mates on their adventure. On the way, they meet guardian number five, Saeward. I have a feeling that he is going to be my favorite. The storyline obviously continues into the next boxset which I will be starting tomorrow. Overall, this is an engrossing and entertaining read which I highly recommend.
